Wellness at Kerlingarfjöll begins the moment you arrive in the highlands, where geothermal energy moves beneath the surface and a stunning landscape surrounds you.
From there, it’s about moving your body through fresh mountain air, feeling the warmth of the earth beneath your feet, or simply sitting in silence with a mountain view and letting your mind clear. It’s in the long hikes or runs that leave you tired in the best possible way followed by a soak in a steamy hot spring.
This is natural wellness, raw, restoring, and something you didn’t know you needed.
Kerlingarfjöll in summer
In summer (June-September) Kerlingarfjöll is accessible by car or bus.
Go trekking, trail-running, or e-mountain biking through painted hills and steaming valleys, no rush, just wide-open space and time to breathe.
Stay your way whether it’s camping out under the stars, nestling into a warm hut for the night, or booking a cosy room at the Highland Base lodge or hotel. Sweet dreams really come easy here.
After a day of moving, breathing, soaking, and simply being, your body is warm, your mind is clear, and the mountains tuck you in with silence.
Kerlingarfjöll doesn’t just offer wellness, it reminds you what it feels like to come back to you.
Kerlingarfjöll in winter
Winter is magical. With unpredictable weather and icy roads, a 4×4 super jeep with a professional driver is the safest way to get there.
Pack your skis, snowshoes, or hiking boots, and head into the snow-covered highlands to ski or trek around the Hveradalir geothermal valley.
This is winter wellness at its best, no schedule to follow, just cold, fresh air, warm water, and space to reset.
With perhaps stars and northern lights to chase, the night sky becomes part of the experience. Highland Base provides the perfect balance of comfort and connection whether you’re staying in one of the lodges or the hotel with a steaming geothermal pool, cold plunge, sauna, and a bar where you can sip something refreshing while soaking it all in.
Getting there. From Reykjavík the drive is 3.5 hours. From Route 1 (Þjóðvegur 1), turn onto Route 35 and then continue to F347. If renting a car, confirm that it is covered for travel on Iceland’s mountain F roads.
