The Rauðavatn Ultra returns for its second edition on Friday and Saturday, 7–8 August 2026, in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The course consists of approximately 90% road running and 10% trail running, following a 3.14 km loop around the scenic Rauðavatn Lake.


Race Distances

Competitors can choose from the following events:

  • 21.1 km (Half Marathon)
  • 42.2 km (Marathon)
  • 100 km (Icelandic National Championship)
  • 24-Hour Race

The 24-hour event challenges runners to complete as many laps of the 3.14 km circuit as possible within 24 hours.

The 100 km race consists of 32 laps around Rauðavatn. The official time limit is 15 hours.


Registration

Registration is available through netskraning.is.

Race bibs will be available for collection at Sportvörur 2–3 days before the event (exact dates will be announced) and at Rauðavatn from 8:00 am on race day, or one hour before the start of each race.

Registration Policy

  • Refunds are available until 26 July 2026.
  • Entry transfers (name changes) are permitted until race day.

Location & Start Times

All races start at Rauðavatn, Reykjavík, near the Morgunblaðið building.

Friday, 7 August

  • 18:00 – 24-Hour Race
  • 23:59 – 100 km (for runners expecting a finish time of 12+ hours)

Saturday, 8 August

  • 02:00 – 100 km (for runners expecting to finish in under 12 hours)
  • 09:00 – Marathon (42.2 km)
  • 12:00 – Half Marathon (21.1 km)

Please note: The Half Marathon, Marathon, and 100 km races will have adjusted start positions on the course to ensure each distance finishes at the official finish line.


Aid Station

There will be one fully stocked aid station located at the start/finish area beside Rauðavatn inside a large event tent. Runners pass this station on every lap and may choose how often to stop for refreshments.

Available refreshments include:

  • Water
  • Sports drink
  • Coca-Cola
  • Energy bars
  • Bananas
  • Apples

Please note that runners must enter the tent to collect food or drinks, which may slightly slow progress.

For 100 km and 24-hour participants, larger meals will be served periodically throughout the race.


Race Rules

General Rules

For all race distances:

  • Runners are not permitted to receive pacing assistance from anyone who is not officially entered in the event.

24-Hour Race

  • One support person is permitted from the start.
  • No additional assistance is allowed on the course outside the official aid station.
  • Runners may bring:
    • Extra running shoes
    • One small luggage bag containing nutrition, drinks, clothing, and spare equipment.
  • Bags will be stored on the tent floor, subject to available space.
  • A dedicated table will be available exclusively for 24-hour runners, where participants may leave a small container (approximately 20 × 20 cm) with additional nutrition for easy access.
  • At the conclusion of the 24-hour race, officials will signal the end using a whistle or public announcement system. Runners should:
    • Remove their race bib.
    • Place it in the zip-lock bag provided during race packet collection.
    • Leave the bag on the ground at the point where they stop.
    • Secure it with a stone or gravel so timing officials can collect it.

100 km Race

  • One support person is permitted from the start.
  • No additional assistance is allowed elsewhere on the course.
  • Runners may bring:
    • Extra shoes
    • One backpack containing nutrition and spare equipment.
  • A dedicated table will be available for 100 km runners where a clearly labelled container (approximately 20 × 20 cm) may be stored with additional nutrition.
  • The official time limit is 15 hours.
  • The race concludes at midnight on Saturday, after which all remaining runners will be stopped.

Marathon (42.2 km)

  • One support person is permitted.
  • No support is allowed elsewhere on the course.
  • Runners may place one small container with personal nutrition and drinks on the designated table at the aid station.
  • No additional belongings may be stored in the tent.

Half Marathon (21.1 km)

  • No support person permitted.
  • No outside assistance allowed on the course.
  • No personal equipment or supplies may be stored in the event tent.
