SUMMARY:Lowland Hike on May 9 with a guide\, dinner and accommodation
DESCRIPTION:Hótel Langaholt is offering a lowland day hike on May 9\, including dinner and overnight accommodation with breakfast. \nThe hike takes place in the southern part of Snæfellsjökull National Park and is led by a former park ranger. The focus is on education and exploring historical remains that lie off the main tourist routes and outside the most visited sites. \nThe day begins with arrival at Langaholt at 9:00 AM\, starting with a short coffee break and a discussion about the day\, including organizing car logistics. From Langaholt\, the group will travel together to the starting point of the hike\, leaving some cars parked at the visitor center at Malarrif. \nThe hike starts along the old fishermen’s trail to Dritvík—an unmarked and rarely used lava path\, though clearly visible in the landscape. From Dritvík\, the route continues past Djúpalónssandur\, Einarslón\, and Þrælavík to Malarrif\, and possibly onward to Lóndrangar and Svalþúfa\, depending on time and weather conditions. \nParticipants should expect a 13–16 km hike with minimal elevation gain and 7–8 hours outdoors. Some sections cross rough and uneven lava terrain\, which can be demanding. Proper outdoor clothing is required\, including wind- and waterproof layers and hiking boots with good ankle support. \nThe hike is organized in collaboration with Tindar Snæfellsness\, and the guide is Guðmundur Rúnar Svansson. \nAfter the hike\, a shared dinner will be held at Langaholt. \n(Minimum group size is 8 participants.) \nAbout the guide: \nThe hiking tour is managed by Guðmundur Rúnar Svansson from Dalsmynni. He is a former ranger at Snæfellsjökull National Park and a member of the Reykjavík Air Ground Rescue Team. He has completed professional training courses at the Rescue School in mountaineering\, mountain rescue\, avalanche safety\, and wilderness first aid. He has many years of experience as a hiking guide. \nGuðmundur grew up farming and working in rural life on the Snæfellsnes peninsula and eventually returned there after spending some time working in the capital area. He is said to be of a Snæfellsnes “half-troll” lineage and a distant relative of Bárður Snæfellsás. Because of his heritage\, he often hikes alone in the mountains of Snæfellsnes and speaks little of it. He is also rumored to descend from a long line of people with magical abilities. \nClick on the link below to request a booking or for more information.
