SUMMARY:Snæfellsjökull Run
DESCRIPTION:Snæfellsjökull Run (Snæfellsjökulshlaupið)\nThe Snæfellsjökull Run will be held on June 20th and this will be the fifteenth time the race takes place. \nThe number of participants is limited to 350 runners.As the starting area is spacious\, all participants will start at the same time.The fastest runners are encouraged to line up at the front. \nThere will be two aid stations offering water and sports drinks. Runners are encouraged to bring their own drinking containers; environmentally friendly paper cups will be available for those who need them. \nGenerous raffle prizes will be offered.All participants will receive a small gift bag after finishing. \nThe Course\nThe course is approximately 22 km (about 13.7 miles)\, with a large portion on gravel roads. \nThe first 8 km involve an uphill climb of approximately 700–750 meters (2\,300–2\,460 ft) elevation gain. After that\, the course descends toward Ólafsvík\, where the finish line is located. \nRunners can expect to encounter snow and mud between km 1 and km 7\, depending on how snowy the winter has been. \nAlong the way\, runners will experience unique natural beauty — not to mention the powerful energy of Snæfellsjökull. \nTwo aid stations will be positioned along the route at approximately 7.5 km intervals and will be managed by the rescue team Lífsbjörg. \nAt Arnarstapi\, there will be a vehicle where runners can leave extra belongings and clothing\, which will be delivered to the Sports Hall in Ólafsvík. Clothing may also be handed in at the aid stations if necessary. All clothing and equipment will be returned in Sjómannagarðurinn after the race. \nLocation and Time\nThe race starts at 12:00 (noon) from Arnarbær (the black turf house) by the road at Arnarstapi. From there\, the route goes over Jökulháls to Ólafsvík on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. \nA bus will be available from Ólafsvík to Arnarstapi for those who wish to use it. It departs at 10:45 from the Sports Hall in Ólafsvík and costs 2\,500 ISK. \nÓlafsvík is approximately a 2.5-hour drive from Reykjavík. \nRegistration Fee\nThe entry fee is 8\,000 ISK.Participants may cancel and receive a refund up to 10 days before the race. After that\, the entry fee is non-refundable. \nAge Categories\n60 and older\n50–59 years\n40–49 years\n39 years and younger \nPrizes\nPrizes will be awarded for the best times in each age category. There will also be numerous raffle prizes. \nITRA\nThe race awards ITRA points.

In order\nto successfully finish each stage\, riders will be required to stop at aminimumof two Cultural\nConnections per stage.\nCultural Connections range from museums to hot pots and are predetermined by the race. They\nare intended to encourage you to stop and take in the culture ofthe Westfjords. These are\ncheckpoints where ride time is paused – your time spent atthe stop will be deducted from your\noverall stage time. There are atleastfour Cultural Connection options per stage and all ofthem can\nbe viewed on the stage breakdown pages below. DESCRIPTION:REYKJAVÍK TRAIL takes place on July 3–4\nDistances: 5 km\, 15 km\, 25 km\, 100 km\, and 100 miles \n\nThe 100 km and 100-mile races start on July 3.\nThe 5 km\, 15 km\, and 25 km races start on July 4.\n\nThis is a fun trail running event\, mostly on off-road paths through Elliðaárdalur\, Rauðhólar\, Heiðmörk\, and for the longer distances\, all the way to the volcanic areas of Reykjanes. \nLocation\nThe race starts at the bottom of Elliðaárdalur (near Rafstöðvarheimilið).Parking is available\, for example\, at Rafstöðvarveg\, Ártúnsskóli\, and Árbæjarsafn\, followed by a short walk to the start/finish area. \nParticipants are encouraged to walk or cycle from nearby neighborhoods like Fossvogur\, Breiðholt\, Árbær\, Ártúnsholt\, as access via walking paths in Elliðaárdalur is very good. \nAward ceremonies will take place shortly after the first three finishers in each distance.Distances and Race Routes \n\n5 km: Gravel paths in Elliðaárdalur\, including the island and “Hatturinn” below 111 Breiðholt.\n15 km: Same route as 5 km\, extended through Elliðaárdalur\, Norðlingaholt\, a loop in Rauðhólar\, and back.\n25 km (1 ITRA point): Same as 15 km\, plus an approx. 10 km loop in Heiðmörk.\n100 km (3 ITRA points): Same as 25 km\, plus a scenic loop in Heiðmörk\, via Vigdísavallavegur to the Reykjanes volcanic areas\, and back.\n100 miles (5 ITRA points): Same as 100 km\, plus a long loop near Grindavík\, passing defense walls\, Mount Þorbjörn\, and other highlights\, then back to Elliðaárdalur.\n\nAwards\n\nPrizes for the first three finishers in each distance\, men and women.\nAlso for age group winners\, men and women.\nGenerous raffle prizes.\n\nEntry Fees and Registration\nRegister at hlaup.is.
